Trending Home Styles of 2021

It is no surprise that styles in the home are constantly changing. It seems that every year there is a new trend, a new color, and a new statement being made in the home. With 2020 now two months in the past, it is time to look forward to what new home styles 2021 will bring. This is our take.

Global Influence

Inspired by earth tones and natural textures, a global influence in the home has gained popularity in the past year. “We usually travel around the world to gain insight into the must-have trends for the season ahead, but this year we have had to think outside the box and gain inspiration from elsewhere.”

“Taking influence from nature, nostalgia, and the desire for a tropical getaway, living spaces will reflect the current situation we are faced with, embracing calming color palettes and familiar patterns that create a sanctuary in any home.”

Earth Tones

Earth tones, including beige, brown, burnt umber, and terracotta, will continue to be popular in 2021. Backed up by the 2021 color of the year Urbane Bronze from Sherwin Williams, neutral colors are not going anywhere this year.

“As we're looking to create the ultimate retreat for reflection and renewal, we're turning to a hue whose natural simplicity and nature-inspired energy cultivate a sense of calm from the ground up.” See more about color trends on our previous blog post: Trending Paint Colors of 2021.

Grand-Millenial

Inspired by the comforts of “Grandma’s home” and nostalgia, this new style is combining old, mid-century with a new modern twist. It is bringing wallpaper, rich, wood furniture, and patterns back into interiors.

The key to pulling off the grand millennial look is to create a more timeless design than an antiquated one. “Be selective as you accessorize to avoid an overly cluttered look. Choose fabrics in bold patterns, but keep the color palette tight and consistent so the look is layered and cozy, not chaotic. Above all, decorate with what you love.”

Timeless Design

With styles changing year to year, timeless design is something that every homeowner craves to have in their home. To create a timeless design is no easy feat, and there are many variables that go into designing the perfect space. Designer Jean Stoffer tackled this when she took on the Madison project in Grand Rapids, MI.
