The One Room Challenge - Spring 2023

The 2023 Spring One Room Challenge ended on June 1st, and with it came an array of beautiful room scenes. The One Room Challenge event is an eight-week period in which anyone with a blog or Instagram account is invited to participate by transforming a room in just 8 weeks and sharing the progress with the community.

Ornamental Decorative Millwork partnered with five different designers this season who used decorative products to enhance their room design. Take a look below to learn more about the projects from this season that featured Ornamental products, and don’t forget to also take a look at the hundreds of other spaces that were revamped on the One Room Challenge official blog page.

Amanda Warren

Amanda Warren decided to take on the challenge of renovating her guest bedroom this season. She wanted to create a cozy and inviting room for her guests while still creating a charming space, and Amanda did just that with this project. The room transformed into a gorgeous guest room full of vintage charm that included our new Rachel Wainscot Kit.

I wanted this room to differentiate from our other guest room we did with full wallpaper, so I decided to do fun molding and paint for the bottom half of the wall. Ornamental has some amazing pre-made molding designs that made it so easy to work with! This was our first time installing any molding and doing woodwork ourselves around the house, but with a few quick purchases like a Mitre saw and nail gun, the project went so well. I highly recommend looking at their options to give your room that creative custom architectural look without breaking the bank.

Jana Donohoe

Jana Donohoe took on one of the most challenging spaces in her home for this challenge - her kitchen. She added bright blue paint to all of her cabinets that lit up the space along with a stunning decorative wallpaper. She also added a beautiful moulding detail on the ceiling with our Traditional Accent Moulding and Corner Aides.

I am so in love with how my breakfast nook turned out. It’s so serene and cozy. I literally just want to sit in here all day. Let’s recap what I did in my breakfast nook.

Emily martin

Emily Martin built a stunning kitchen nook during the 8-week-long challenge, and it looks like a scene straight out of a magazine. Emily used our Reeded Accent Moulding to add texture to the board and batten walls, and she used our Sawtooth profile to add beautiful texture and dimension to the bench seat.

“This has been such a labor of love + hard work! Maximizing the space in our dining area has really made this room feel much bigger and gives it such a custom feel.”

Jessica Paige

Jessica decided to transform her bedroom this season. Her inspiration for this project was “European Cottage meets Tahoe Ski Chalet,” and she hit the nail on the head with her design. The beautiful Traditional Panel Mouldings she used in this room add beautiful texture to the walls, and they pair perfectly with the warm neutral tones in the space.

“The inspiration for my @oneroomchallenge Primary Bedroom makeover is “European Cottage meets Tahoe Ski Cabin” and Ornamental’s beefy, bold, and beautiful millwork was the perfect addition to make my vision come to life!”

Janelle Payne

Janelle took on her son’s bedroom for the challenge. She added an Archdale Floating Shelf to add some decor to the space, but the biggest feat of this project is the hidden door that she created using our Ambrosia Maple Slat Accent Moulding.

“This project was so much easier using the square reeded accent moulding provided by Ornamental Decorative Millwork. Rex's room had two separate entrances that made absolutely no sense! I decided to disguise one as a cool accent wall in order to utilize more of his bedroom but still maintain the door if we want it down the road! With these solid 8ft panels it completely disguised the door and I have to say the variation in the wood tones has really grown on me! 😍”
